Swish Girls Basketball - All Girls Basketball Training Program

Swish Atlanta's Swish Girls Basketball program is divided into two divisions - Swish Girls Basketball all girls training program and SGB Competitive, which is our competitive teams playing in tournaments and leagues. Swish Girls Basketball is open to all girls that fall within the stated age range of an individual program. SGB Competitive is only available via a tryout. With both programs, the emphasis is on player development rather than chasing trophies. For more information on our competitive program, please see our Swish Travel Teams page.

Swish Girls Basketball was started to fill a great need in girls basketball. After years of hearing parents complain that they were investing so much time and money but their daughter's weren't getting better, we knew it was time to offer something different. We knew why this was happening. Rec programs have a few practices and they're right into the season. Travel basketball isn't much better. Coaches and programs put far more emphasis on preparing to win games than developing players. The top five or six players get all of the playing time while the "fundraising crew", as I call them, sit on the end of the bench and wait. Even in rec league where they're guaranteed two quarters, supposedly, the training isn't there to help prepare young ladies to get the most out of that playing time. At Swish Atlanta, we are developers rather than gatherers. We want to develop players so they enjoy the game more and choose to play for a long time. There's a reason so many girls drop out of the game. It's simply not fun if you're not comfortable and confident on the court.

Swish Girls Basketball answers the call. Players receive the skill development and decision training they need to learn the game and become comfortable in game situations. Occasionally we'll have "game nights" and bring in officials so young players get a feel for the entire process of playing a game. This internal games approach will allow us the freedom to focus exclusively on helping players learn the game and be better prepared to compete at a higher level. When they're truly ready to test their abilities against competition that's far more intense than they're school teams typically play, we'll give them opportunities for outside competition.

Think of this as a hybrid between recreation, school, and intense travel basketball.

  • More training hours than rec programs.

  • More serious players to train and play with.

  • Better training than typical rec programs.

  • Less financial and time commitment than traditional travel ball.

Registration is now open for all programs being held at Old Atlanta Park in Suwanee. Stay tuned for the program being offered at Gwinnett Hall Baptist Church in Lawrenceville. A New Year & New Program @ OAP

The program at Old Atlanta Park will be divided up very differently this year. Players may sign up for one or two days per week with each day/program being divided up into 3 four week sessions. Monday evenings will be devoted to the important but elusive skill of shooting. If you've watched any middle school girls games this year, you'll know why we're doing this. Wednesday will be our standard Swish Girls Basketball program devoted to all personal skill development and decision training. Here are the details:

For the programs at Old Atlanta Park, each session includes four nights. They are not progressive but are designed to give the necessary repetition every level of player needs to improve their game. The best plan is to remain consistent over a period of several months. However, if your schedule necessitates taking some time off, you'll now have the option to do that.
